This Black Sesame Milk Tea is an earthy, nutty, and incredibly creamy beverage that brings the sophisticated flavors of East Asian desserts to your boba glass. Using real black sesame paste and chewy tapioca pearls, it’s a cafe-quality drink you can make in under 15 minutes.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

Water (for boiling) – 2 cups

Tapioca balls – 1/4 cup

Hot water (for mixing) – 1/4 cup

Brown sugar – 2 tablespoons

Black sesame paste – 1 tablespoon

Ice – 3/4 cup

Milk (dairy or plant-based) – 1 cup

Instructions

Boil 2 cups of water in a small saucepan on the stovetop.

Add the tapioca balls to the boiling water and cook on medium-high heat for 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Once the tapioca balls are soft all the way through, drain them but keep them warm.

In a separate cup, combine the black sesame paste, 1/4 cup hot water, and brown sugar.

Use a handheld milk frother at low speed to whisk the sesame mixture until perfectly smooth and emulsified.

Assemble the drink: Add the warm, strained tapioca balls to a serving glass.

Fill the glass with 3/4 cup of ice.

Pour the sweetened black sesame mixture over the ice.

Top the glass with 1 cup of your preferred milk.

Stir well before drinking with an extra-wide boba straw.

Notes

• Serve the boba while still warm for the best “QQ” chewy texture.

• Use a milk frother to ensure the dense sesame paste fully incorporates without clumps.

• Tapioca balls harden after 4 hours; always prepare them fresh for the best experience.

• Adjust the brown sugar to your preferred sweetness level.
